Zipper Bag Ministry

Can you imagine what it is like to loose your home and all your possessions in a fire? Put yourself in the place of a 6 year old being taken into state custody. Maybe you know from experience just how quickly tragedy can change your life.

Jesus left instructions for His followers to share His love with others who are in need of help.

Zipper bag ministries use gallon size zip lock bags filled with inexpensive necessities to share God's love with people who are facing difficult situations.

You can provide practical physical and spiritual help to victims of fire and other disasters. Read over the project descriptions. Chose one or allow the Holy Spirit to suggest another group you can minister to. Then use the suggested supply lists for adults and/or children to prepare you first bags.

The most important supply in any bag is prayer! Bathe your project in prayer. Pray before you begin the ministry. Pray as you prepare the bags. Pray over the finished bags. After you pass the bags along to distribution points, continue to pray that God will use them to help people be aware of His love for them.

Encourage community businesses and agencies to donate supplies for your bags. Include a 'thank you' list giving credit for the donations in each bag. We have gotten soap and shampoo from an area hotel.

• Work with local fire departments to distribute bags of supplies to people who lose their homes or must be evacuated. The fire departments carry the bags in their emergency response vehicles, give the bags out as needed and let you know when the supply of bags is running low.
• Suggest that law enforcement officers and child protection workers carry bags to give to children who must be taken into protective custody.
• Work with local shelters to distribute bags to the homeless.
