Beauregard Council on Aging
The Beauregard Council on Aging is a multipurpose center whose total program
is to provide development and delivery of services for persons sixty years
of age and over and/or their spouse. The center also serves as a community
resource for information, referral and training in the field of aging.
We operate under the Governer's Office of Elderly Affairs. The program is
funded by both federal and state funds. The BCOA is a non-discriminating
agency that encourages participation of low-income, minority, socially
needy, and the handicapped. However, anyone sixty years of age or older
is eligible for our services.

Note: Funding and services are limited. Volunteers are needed.
Fees: No fee is charged. Donations are welcome.
Special Services:
- Advocacy Representation - Efforts to resolve an individual client's
problem with medical charges, utility bills, etc.
- Assessments and Screening - Pre-nursing admissions, routine health
screening (blood pressure, blood sugar testing, hearing tests and eye
testing provided on scheduled dates)
- Escort - Accompanying and personally assisting a client to obtain
a service
- Information and Referrals - To provide concrete information to a
client about available public and voluntary services in the area
- Legal Assistance - Legal advice, education and counseling by a
local attorney
- Letter Writing/Reading - To read, write, interpret and/or translate
business or personal correspondence
- Material Aid - Available for loan a limited amount of medical
equipment.
- Outreach - A personal contact to identify clients and to encourage
use of existing services
- Shopping - Provide assistance in purchasing food, clothing,
prescriptions, household items and in paying bills.
- Telephoning - Helpline/BCOA provide prearranged calls in order to
provide comfort or help. Emergency Response Systems are available from
BCOA
- Congregate Meal Sites - Hot meals served five days a week at community
sites or delivered to homes.
- Eastside School - Martin Luther King Drive, DeRidder
- Community Facility Building - 104 Port Street, DeRidder
- Ombudsman - Service which provides monitoring services for eldery
patients confined to our local nursing homes
- Visiting - Visits are made in the home of client to comfort or help
- Homemaker - Preference given to persons living alone, not in good
health, home-bound and needy. Services limited to one or two hours
according to need assessment.
