Farewell

(to Brother & Mrs. Hightower on leaving Sugartown)
Today we said goodbye
to a very special friend.
'Twas our own dear pastor.
He has other sheep to tend.

We wish him well, you know,
tho' we wish that he could stay.
I'm afraid that we all failed
so he had to go away.

If only we would listen
to what each one has to say
In love and in harmony
and not try to have our way.

It makes our Lord so sad
when His children misbehave.
We envy, talk and hate,
angrily we rant and rave.

I see Him shake His head
as He looks upon this scene.
He says "Clean up the inside
and the outside will be clean".

Oh, Lord, help us today
to right the wrong we've done.
So when the new pastor comes
we can act and love as one.

Goodbye dear brother pastor
and to your lovely wife.
We'll miss you both so much;
you've added to our life.

God bless you in your work
as in His arms you're kept,
Trusting always in His care
day by day and step by step.

As in time you think of us
pray, we ask you please,
that the seeds you have planted
will bring us to our knees.

That we may see our faults
that are so plain to others;
that God will help us love
as Christians and as brothers.

Perhaps in time you'll hear
that we are praising God.
Your labor's not in vain
when measured by His rod!
